As a wife, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of how to live out your God-given role in your marriage. However, the Bible provides a clear blueprint for what it means to be a godly wife, and by studying and following these principles, you can become a source of strength, encouragement, and blessing to your husband and family.
Cherish & Display Godly Virtue
The virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 is a model of a godly wife. She brings honor & blessings to her family by possessing qualities that include being trustworthy, hardworking, compassionate, and wise. As a wife, you can cultivate these same virtues in your own life and become a source of positive influence to those around you.
Proverbs 31:10-31
"An excellent wife, who can find? She is far more precious than jewels... She is clothed with fine linen and purple; her clothing is of fine gold. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."
Submit to Your Husband
Submission means willingly honoring your husband in his position of leadership within the home. It doesn't mean being a doormat or losing your identity, but rather submitting to a common mission. As a wife, you can support your husband by being a source of encouragement and by helping him fulfill his role as the head of the household.
Ephesians 5:22
"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord."
Encourage Your Husband
One of the most important things you can do as a wife is to encourage your husband. Speak words of hope, affirmation, and inspiration into his life. Support him in his goals and dreams and be a source of strength and comfort during difficult times. Your husband needs to know that you believe in him and that you are behind him all the way.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing."
Be Your Family's Intercessor
As a wife, it's important to pray for your husband. Pray for God's wisdom, guidance, and protection on his behalf. Stand in the gap for his spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being and lift him up when he is facing challenges. Your prayers can make a significant impact on your husband's life and can help to build a stronger and more united family.
James 5:16
"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working."
Initiate Sex & Speak His Love Language
One of your husband's biggest needs is sex. Be intentional about initiating sex and making it a priority in your relationship. This will show your husband that you love and cherish him and that you value your relationship. It's also important to learn and understand your husband's love language so that you can meet his emotional and physical needs.
1 Corinthians 7:4
“For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise, the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does."
Guard the Environment of Your Home
As a wife, you play a critical role in creating a warm, welcoming, and peaceful environment for your husband and children. Work together with your husband to guard the gates of your home, keeping out negativity and creating a safe and loving environment for your family to thrive in. By working together and protecting your home, you can build a strong foundation for your family and ensure their happiness and well-being.
Proverbs 31:27
"She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness."
By following these biblical principles, you can become a virtuous, loving, and supportive wife to your husband. Remember that God is always with you and will guide and bless you as you seek to honor Him in your marriage.
